Statement

My work is centred on layered colourwork and mark marking. Primarily working in oils, but also incorporating collaged parts of other worked canvases, oil pastel and pastel. I have most recently been experimenting with additional layered surfaces such as tracing paper blank photographic paper on worked primed canvas. This has enabled me to go deeper into the effect of true edges and grid isolations over the canvas, as well as importing fast contrasts in surface, mark and colour. Newer works also feature lost and emerging lines, with underdrawing partly obscured, partly visible, in different media. My work frequently refers to two-person tensions, with colour blocking, movement lines and sweeps to orient both the viewer and the subjects. In recent works, historical war toy animals have been appropriated and repurposed to represent my perception of a friend currently in a war zone.
