Statement
I am a painter working in SW Scotland, and exhibiting across the country. I trained as an illustrator at GSA back in the 80s; have worked as a teacher in secondary education for over 30 years; and reinvented myself as a painter about 15 years ago. I paint figurative work, loving the possible narratives that arise, and sometimes portraits. I also paint birds, boats and landscapes, loving colour and mark-making, and allowing the paint to be front and centre in my work. I have been a finalist in the ING Discerning Eye Drawing competition and the Scottish Portrait Awards, and won the D&G Life Visual Artist of the Year award in 2022.
