Man in black
Drawn in charcoal, this portrait is a tribute to Johnny Cash during the height of his fame.
Over the span of 10 weeks, I outlined the portrait in pencil and used charcoal to create a base layer which I later refined using charcoal and white pastel to highlight and emphasise the features. I sealed it with hairspray to ensure it wouldn't smudge during the framing process.
This portrait took a lot of time and effort and I consider it one of my strongest works I have produced in the last two years.
