On the path through Steall Gorge, Glen Nevis there is a twisted Scots Pine overlooking the Glen. Her branches reach out to the vast view over the tumbling waters below; kindly matriarch protective of both the landscape and the visitors who pass through it. First sketching out her form in oil pastels as I would the human form in a life drawing session, I then used painting medium and oil paint to bring out the texture of her bark and needles and capture an impression of the view beyond in the negative space between her branches.
