Mugdock Castle, Autumn

Mugdock Country Park is a place that is very special to me, it feels remote yet so close to Glasgow. I loved the composition of this photograph taken by a friend of mine and decided to capture it in oils. I used black gesso to add depth and painted the castle over several sittings, adding more detail to the stonework each time, adding the shadows at the end. I always try to push the colours in my paintings, making them as vibrant and contrasting as possible, for example the orange leaves against the blue sky.
