Cloisters, Glasgow University
I love to capture iconic Glasgow scenes and took a photograph of the Cloisters at Glasgow University on a sunny day, the sun streaming through the archways and columns to create interesting patterns on the ground. I selected oils to paint the scene- they are my preferred medium because of the depth of colour you can achieve. I went through various stages of underpainting before creating the contrasting brights and darks to give the painting depth and perspective. I always try to push the colours whilst remaining in the realm of realism, such as adding pthalo blue to the background buildings and the foreground and alizarin crimson to the granite columns.
