Midsummer; the Summer Solstice - the day with the longest period of daylight and shortest night of the year in that hemisphere. At either pole there is continuous daylight at the time of its summer solstice. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the June solstice. There is evidence that the summer solstice has been culturally important since the Neolithic era.
