In the thicket
This small quilt explores queer pregnancy, motherhood and visibility. Repurposed fabrics, baby clothes and hessian dyed with natural materials have been improvisationally pieced together to depict a queer couple standing within a thicket. This represents the interconnectedness of a biological and non biological mother. Almost camouflaged, they also symbolise the need or desire of queer mothers to sometimes blend in, as well as the invisibility often imposed by society. The transformation of materials mirrors how queer families redefine and liberate themselves from traditional concepts of parenthood, creating bonds and connections like the tangled, flourishing thicket.
