Old King of Sasan Gir

Old King of Sasan Gir , Drawing
Old King of Sasan Gir
The old king was tired. Every year the boundaries of his home had closed in a little more, and every year more male lions appeared in what used to be his territory. There was nowhere for everyone to go, their home had shrunk so much. Now there was less food and so many more confrontations. He'd had too many encounters with other males, and one too many fights. He lay down and, looking around at what was left of his home, he wondered if it would all be gone soon.

Drawing of an Asiatic lion, which can only now be found in the Gir forest despite having a former range as far west as Turkey.
