Neurons
My mediums in this are acrylic paint, acrylic ink and drawing ink. My inspiration is the neurons that are in the brain and spinal cord, I find these shapes quite intriguing in terms of both form and appearance. My first piece process for this was drawing out the first brain shape first and filled that in with acrylic paint, I was wanting to go for a more red colour but it was more like an orange that came out so blotted some of that orange out with water and left that part to dry.

I also focused on creating a neuron-like string appearance and I accidentally made some marks on the paper so I just incorporated them in, then I drew out another almost bigger brain with drawing ink had more pinkish drawing ink and added some pearlescent purple acrylic ink to just see how they interacted together and I liked the end result of that. Drawing inspiration from my own MRI scans—particularly the white spots indicative of multiple sclerosis scars—I incorporated circular motifs to introduce additional detail. The remaining elements were guided predominantly by my creative intuition, allowing spontaneity and chaos to influence the final outcome.

The mediums for second piece I used include acrylic paint and drawing ink. My process involved taking an image of my MRI from my phone, printing it out, and then carefully cutting out the brain using an exacto knife and scissors. I glued the cut out onto my piece of work, then extended the lines representing the spinal cord by drawing continuing lines, incorporating additional white paper to maintain the connection throughout the composition.

Next, I drew the brain adjacent to the MRI image and filled it in with red acrylic paint, loosening the application slightly to evoke a sense of chaos, which aligns with the overall theme.

The piece explores the chaotic aspects of my life, including overthinking, anxiety, and my multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
