Victorian Greenhouse
Linocut Print of a Victorian Greenhouse in Ireland. This work navigates themes of nostalgia, attachment and love. The print depicts a strong contrast between structure and the gentleness of illuminating light peaking through into the greenhouse. While growing up I had spent an abundance of time at my grandmother’s allotment in Poland surrounded by the sweet scent of tomatoes in her greenhouse, when visiting Ireland for the first time I had stumbled upon this coral pink victorian greenhouse in the middle of winter, yet upon entering I was hit with the familiar scent of tomatoes even though nothing inside was alive or growing. It felt like entering a familiar sanctuary. The process behind linocut printmaking entails carving the design into a linoleum block, applying ink to the raised areas and transferring the image onto paper.
