Statement
I have always loved working with clay since being introduced to the medium by an inspiring art teacher whilst still at school. He encouraged me to apply to North Staffordshire Polytechnic, in the heart of the potteries, where I gained an HND in Industrial Ceramics followed by a BA(Hons) in Design(Ceramics). After working as a shape designer briefly for Wedgwood I re-trained as a teacher and spent the next twenty six years working in that role. I have recently been lucky enough to return back to potting and I am enjoying being creative again. All my work is hand built and fired using the ancient Japanese technique called`Raku.` I draw inspiration for my work from the stunning Scottish landscape and Scottish folklore. I can achieve exciting lustre effects with the Raku glazes I use and the raku firing process is exciting and dynamic and ensures a unique piece is produced every time.
