Cherie Jardine

Statement

My journey into art began in April 2015. I've always been creative, be it sewing, crocheting or drawing monkeys for my bedroom wall as a child. Little did I know that art would come to save me after losing my mother in June 2014. Grief affects everyone differently but I realised that my childhood hobbies were the only things that could ease the pain. Almost a year on, I signed up to a short beginners "Learn how to draw" class. I was terrible, but I stuck at it as for the first time in a long time, I felt joy in being creative again. I signed up for all the other media classes and today, I now exhibit and take on commissions. I currently work in oils, concentrating on portraiture and continue to develop my style and techniques.
It's just so sad that I had to lose my mum to find art but art has kept my mothers memory alive as I always looked for her approval in everything I made, so perhaps she had a hand in art finding me?????
